Small Stair Makeover

In the world of home renovation, sometimes it's the smaller changes that can have the most profound impact. Recently, we had the opportunity to work on a stair makeover that transformed a tired, dated space into a fresh and modern focal point.

Upgrading the Spindles

One of the first changes we made was swapping out the old wood spindles for sleek iron ones. The original spindles, while functional, felt heavy and outdated. The new iron spindles bring a sense of lightness and modernity to the staircase, creating a more open and inviting feel.

A Carpet Refresh

The next major change was addressing the dated carpet. We chose a new carpet with beautiful striations and texture that immediately brought a fresh energy to the space. The blend of colors in this carpet is subtle yet sophisticated, tying together the various design elements of the staircase and the surrounding area. This particular carpet is Dream Weaver Pattern: Montreal, Color: BonaVista. Warning, this is a must-see in person, online images don’t do it justice.

Transforming the Trim

One of the most significant, yet often overlooked, changes was updating the trim. The original stained trim, while once popular, had begun to feel out of place in the home's overall design. It drew too much attention to itself, disrupting the visual flow of the space. By painting the trim to match the home's existing millwork, we were able to create a cohesive and harmonious look that allows the other design elements to shine.

The Impact of Small Changes

This stair makeover is a perfect example of how thoughtful updates can make a big difference in a home's overall aesthetic. By making a few strategic changes, we were able to transform a dated staircase into a modern and stylish feature that enhances the entire home.
